Cass Park Trail

Project overview
The Cass Park Trail, a two-mile trail loop completed in 2003, is the
first phase of the Cayuga Waterfront Trail. Northeast Greenways (NG)
prepared a successful New York State Environmental Bond Act grant that
provided $150,000 for trail construction. This was matched by $275,000
from the City of Ithaca and $100,000 from the Ithaca community to provide
a total of $525,000 for trail construction. Trail furnishings and trail
places, including the trailhead, the Inlet Overlook and the Miller Grove,
were funded with private contributions that allowed for the development
of many distinctive spaces and anenities along the trail. Northeast Greenways
and the Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative received a Rail-Trail Design
Award in 2003 from the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and the American Society
of Landscape Architects (see news). NG coordinated the production of
a self-guided walking tour, "A Walk Through History", that
highlights the history of the Cass Park for trail users. For more information
on the Cass Park and Cayuga Waterfront Trail see www.cayugawaterfronttrail.com.
Project Team, Client, NG Role & Project Status
