Cayuga Seneca Canalway Trail

Project overview
The
Cayuga-Seneca Canal is a 19-mile branch of the 524-mile New York State
Canal System. Since the early 1990's New York State has been planning
the conversion of the historic Erie Canal and its branch canals into
the Canal Recreationway with improved boating facilities and the Canalway
Trail. The State is commited to completing the 312 mile Canalway Trail
along the Erie Canal between Buffalo and Albany with 5 years and communities
are cooperating to develop linking trails along the three branches of
the canal system. The Cayuga-Seneca Canal links Cayuga and Seneca Lakes
and the Finger Lakes Region to the Erie Canal.
Northeast Greenways was hired to prepare a master plan for the 10-mile
section between the City of Geneva and the Village of Seneca Falls, home
of the Women's Rights National Historical Park. During the preparation
of the master plan, NG also prepared a successful $420,000 TEA-21 Enhancement
Program grant to construct the first 6 miles of the trail between Geneva
and Waterloo.
NG has been hired to complete the CS Canal Trail Master Plan between
Seneca Falls and the Erie Canal. In addition we will be working on the
consultant team to prepare design and construction documents for phase
1 of the the trail.
